Sitting along an unassuming stretch of shop lots in Butterworth, Sinbee Cafe is a nod to our appreciation for forms and patterns. We subdivided the space into quarters and looked into every minute details possible to ensure each of the section live up to their own distinctive personality. Acting as a focal point of the cafe space, the bespoke coffee bar is built from a combination of concise surfaces where playful terrazzo sits atop a raw-finished cement counter fronted by a sculptured texture. The intended result was to spark a bold interior contrast to a seemingly soft space graced by a rich coral colour scheme. Colour palette of the terrazzo tiles was then translated into a part of the cafe’s brand identity.

Flanking the opposite wall is a long stretch of velvety caramel banquette seating made with enhanced ergonomics and comfortability in mind – welcoming the guests to sit down, unwind and savour the moments. As opposed to punching large squarish window openings, we constructed multiple arched windows to invite just enough sunlight to diffuse and embrace the space, creating a warm and cosy atmosphere. Taking a slightly unconventional approach to traditional landscaping, we crafted a ‘Zen garden’ underneath the wall seatings using gravel, pebbles, rocks and mini air plants to bring more of the outdoors in.
