Wafer House — our latest project for a married couple with a discerning taste and an appreciation for craft so profound, that they specifically imported a fresh batch of Birch Plywood all the way from Russia before entrusting us to execute a makeover to their house late last year.
To suit the lifestyle needs of a work-from-home letter craftsman as well as parents to two children, we strived for an open layout that allows the small family of four to live in harmony at all times. For instance, we opened up the home office area with a glass panel that acts as a semi-partition, combined with a sliding wooden door that can be interchangeably used when privacy or the children’s attention are required.
Unlike projects in the past, we were challenged to work with precisely 99 pieces of Birch Plywood in this makeover. Due to this limitation, we meticulously planned, tailored and delivered a range of bespoke furniture to suit our client’s lifestyle needs. With its unique grains and wafer-like layering profile, we maximise the potential of these Birch Plywood by conjoining them without breaking the streaks, while highlighting their profiles with customised groove handling on all the drawers. After countless rounds of careful calculation and carpentering, we were able to carve out an understated yet sleek visual impact for Wafer House, exemplified by clean lines and uniformity
